Overview
Thermowell is a protective sheath for temperature sensors such as thermometers or thermocouples, also known as a temperature sensor well or a thermowell insert, primarily used to safeguard temperature sensors from harsh operating conditions. It is a metal tube that is inserted into pipes, tanks, or other containers, allowing the sensor to be inserted into the thermowell, thus avoiding direct contact with the fluid.
Main characteristics of thermowells
- Protecting the temperature sensors inserted inside the thermowell from erosion, corrosion, and mechanical damage caused by process fluids.
- Allowing for the disassembly and replacement of temperature sensors without interrupting the process pipeline, facilitating maintenance and inspections.
- By isolating harmful factors such as corrosive media and thermal stress, thermowell can effectively extend the service life of the temperature sensor.
- The material, shape, size, and other specifications of the thermowell can be selected and designed according to different working conditions and measured medium to achieve the best measurement results.
